Root Canal FAQs (Fast Answers)

How do I know if I need a root canal?

Lingering sensitivity to hot/cold, pain on chewing, spontaneous/night pain, swelling, or a small “pimple” on the gums are common signs. We confirm with an exam and X-ray/CBCT.

How much does a root canal cost in Miami?

Our fees: Anterior $850; Molar $1100. A crown is often recommended for molars/premolars. Your exact fee depends on tooth and complexity.

Is a root canal painful?

With local anesthesia—and optional nitrous—most patients feel pressure only. Post-op soreness (24–48 hrs) is usually mild and manageable with over-the-counter medication unless otherwise directed.

How long is the appointment?

Many teeth are treated in ~60–90 minutes. Complex molars or retreatments can take longer or require an additional visit.

Will I need a crown afterward?

Often for molars and many premolars to protect from fracture. Front teeth may be restored with a filling if sufficient structure remains.

Do you treat emergencies the same day?

Yes—when possible. Call 305-217-6453 and we’ll try to see you today.

What is retreatment? When is apicoectomy needed?

Retreatment reopens and disinfects a previously treated tooth if symptoms return. Apicoectomy is a minor microsurgical procedure at the root tip when retreatment isn’t ideal or symptoms persist. We’ll explain which is best for you.

Will antibiotics alone fix the tooth?

No. Antibiotics can reduce swelling temporarily but do not remove infected tissue inside the tooth. Root canal therapy treats the source.

Can I fly or work out after a root canal?

Most patients fly and exercise normally the next day. If you had significant swelling or surgery, we may recommend a short rest period.

What can I eat after?

Soft foods until numbness wears off; avoid chewing hard foods on the treated tooth until the final restoration is placed.

Do you accept insurance? HSA/FSA?

We work with many PPO plans as an out-of-network or in-network benefit depending on your policy. We’ll help with estimates and claims. HSA/FSA cards are welcome.

¿Hablan español? ¿Atienden endodoncia?

Sí. Ofrecemos atención en español para endodoncia / tratamiento de conducto. Llámanos al 305-217-6453.

Are there alternatives to a root canal?

Extraction is the main alternative. We’ll review pros/cons and replacement options (bridge/implant) so you can choose confidently.

How do I care for my tooth between visits?

Keep the area clean, chew on the other side if tender, follow any medication instructions, and call us if pain or swelling increases.
