Cavity care explained in English or Spanish
Dr. Yordanka Gonzalez, DMD
25 years of experience in dentistry

A cavity is a hole in the tooth caused by decay. Bacteria in plaque feed on sugars and starches and produce acids that slowly dissolve enamel. At first the damage is tiny and painless, which is why many people don't know they have a cavity until it starts to hurt. Left alone, decay keeps moving inward toward the nerve, and a small filling can turn into a root canal, a crown, or even an extraction.
At our office on SW 107th Avenue, Dr. Yordanka Gonzalez, DMD examines every tooth, uses digital X-rays to see between teeth and under old fillings, and explains exactly what she finds before any treatment begins. You get a clear plan, the reason behind it, and the cost up front, in English or Spanish.
Call us if you notice any of these. Early cavities often have no symptoms at all, so regular exams matter.
A quick, sharp twinge when you drink something cold, hot or sweet, or when you bite down on one spot.
White chalky spots, brown or black stains, a pit you can feel with your tongue, or food that keeps getting stuck between two teeth.
A toothache that lasts, throbs, or wakes you up at night can mean decay has reached the nerve. Call us as soon as possible.
The right repair depends on how deep the decay goes. We always aim to save as much natural tooth as possible.
We check every tooth and take digital X-rays to measure the size and depth of each cavity.
For most cavities we remove the decay and rebuild the tooth with composite resin shaded to match your enamel. No silver showing when you smile.
When decay or an old filling has weakened much of the tooth, a crown covers and protects it. Crowns are $1,200.
Deep decay that reaches the pulp needs a root canal: $980 for front teeth, $1,200 for back teeth.
What does a filling cost? Filling fees depend on the tooth, the size of the cavity and how many surfaces are involved, so please call (305) 217-6453 for pricing. We accept PPO dental insurance (not HMO or Medicaid) and work with four financing partners.
A temporary filling is a short-term seal that protects a tooth until the final restoration is placed. We use one between root canal visits, while a crown is being made, or when a tooth needs to calm down before permanent treatment. It keeps food and bacteria out and takes the edge off sensitivity.
Temporary materials are softer than a permanent filling and are meant to last only until your next appointment, so don't wait too long to come back.
Fillings fix the damage; prevention keeps it from coming back. Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, floss once a day, and limit sipping on soda, juice, coffee with sugar and sticky snacks between meals. Ask us whether sealants on the chewing surfaces of your back teeth or a professional fluoride treatment makes sense for you.
Most importantly, keep up with cleanings and checkups. A new patient cleaning is $89, and finding a cavity while it is small usually means a simpler, more affordable repair.
Restorative and cosmetic care under one roof, from the same team that fills your cavities.
For decay that reaches the nerve. Anterior $980 · Posterior $1,200.

Yes. We repair cavities with composite resin that is shaded to match your natural teeth, so the filling blends in when you smile.
A temporary filling is designed to protect the tooth only until your next visit, when the permanent filling or crown is placed. If it breaks or falls out before then, call us so we can replace it.
A very early weak spot in the enamel can sometimes be stopped with fluoride and better home care. Once decay has made a hole in the tooth, it will not grow back and needs a filling before it gets bigger.
