Common dental emergencies we treat

Severe toothache

We find the cause, often a deep cavity or infection, and work to relieve your pain at the same visit when we can.

Knocked-out tooth

Time matters. Come in right away. The sooner we see you, the better the chance of saving the tooth.

Broken or chipped tooth

We repair the tooth with bonding or a crown, depending on how much of the tooth is damaged.

Abscess or infection

We treat the source of the infection, often with a root canal or an extraction.

Lost crown or filling

We protect the exposed tooth and re-cement or replace the restoration.

Broken braces or wire

We fix or adjust the bracket or wire so it stops hurting your mouth.

First aid before you arrive

Toothache

Rinse with warm salt water and gently floss to remove trapped food. Take an over-the-counter pain reliever as the label directs. Don't put aspirin on the gum.

Knocked-out tooth

Hold it by the crown, not the root. Rinse it gently and don't scrub it. Put it back in the socket if you can, or keep it in milk or inside your cheek. Call us on the way.

Broken tooth

Rinse with warm water, save any pieces, and use a cold compress on the cheek to reduce swelling.

Bleeding

Bite firmly on clean gauze for 15–20 minutes. If bleeding is heavy or won't stop, get emergency care.

Lost crown

Keep the crown and bring it with you. Chew on the other side until you're seen.

Swelling

Use a cold compress, 10 minutes on and 10 minutes off. Don't put heat on the swelling. Call us the same day.
