The veneer is bonded to the tooth with a cement material. The material used to make veneers closely resembles the teeth's enamel, so it looks natural when you smile. Dental veneers are placed over the fronts of teeth to improve the appearance of those teeth. They can make a smile more symmetrical by covering one area of a patient’s smile that is lighter than the others. They can also conceal the shape of misshapen or broken teeth and fill a gap between two teeth.
There are many advantages to getting veneers, and the biggest one is hiding stains and discoloration that you can’t seem to get clean. Veneers are thin shells of porcelain or resin bonded to the tooth’s surface to cover imperfections like cracks, chips, stains, gaps, and more. They are made to match the shade of your other teeth for a seamless look. These restorations also make the teeth more robust and less likely to chip or break in the future. Plus, they are completely customizable in shape, size, and color, so you can achieve the smile you’ve always wanted!
Getting porcelain veneers typically takes two appointments at our dentist’s office.
On your first visit, your teeth will be prepared for their veneer placement by removing a thin layer of your enamel from the front of each tooth. This is necessary to ensure that the veneers fit properly and look as natural as possible once they are placed.
Next, an impression will be made of your teeth to send to your dental laboratory, where the veneers will be created. This impression will be used as a guide to create your custom veneers. While your final veneers are being made, your dentist will provide you with a temporary set to wear until your permanent veneers are ready.
Once your final set is prepared, you will return to our dentist’s office to have them placed. Our dentist will apply a particular type of glue to the backside of each veneer and place it on your tooth. A special light is then used to help activate the chemicals in the cement and help the veneer bond to your tooth.
Once the process is complete, you can leave our office with a new smile you love! If you take good care of them, your porcelain veneers will give you a beautiful new appearance for 10 to 15 years or more. This means maintaining a good oral hygiene routine at home and visiting the dentist regularly for professional cleanings and exams.
Anyone who wants to enhance the appearance of their smile can explore veneers. These dental restorations can camouflage:
Composite veneers can conceal mild cosmetic issues. Your dentist uses a tooth-colored composite resin — the same material used for dental bonding — to achieve the desired results.
Porcelain veneers can address a number of aesthetic imperfections. These restorations are custom-made to fit your dental anatomy. Before placement, your dentist must remove some enamel from your natural teeth. This roughens your teeth surfaces and helps your new veneers stay in place.
It’s important to note that veneers are only an option if you’re free of extensive cavities and gum disease. If you have serious oral health issues, you should address those first before exploring cosmetic treatments.
Dental veneers offer a number of benefits. For example:
Veneers also come with certain disadvantages. For example:

Procedure details, care and recovery: answers to the questions patients ask most about dental veneers.
Call (305) 217-6453Veneers are coverings that fit over the front surfaces of your teeth. Technicians use high-quality dental materials, like tooth-colored composite or porcelain, to create them.
Dental veneers are cosmetic in nature. They can conceal a wide range of aesthetic imperfections, including chips, cracks, gaps, tooth discoloration and more.
Veneers cover the front surfaces of your teeth to enhance your smile. They work by camouflaging cosmetic flaws.
A porcelain veneer only covers the front surface of a tooth to enhance its appearance. A dental crown, on the other hand, covers the entire tooth structure to add strength and protection.
Dental veneers are a cosmetic treatment. In other words, they improve your smile, but they don’t necessarily strengthen or repair your teeth. While dental crowns can also improve the appearance of your teeth, their main purpose is to restore teeth that are badly damaged by decay or trauma.
Yes. There are a few different types of veneers, including composite veneers, porcelain veneers, no-prep veneers, and removable veneers.
During your initial appointment, your dentist will examine your teeth and gums to determine if you’re eligible for veneers. If you’re a candidate, they’ll prepare your teeth by removing small amounts of enamel. Next, they’ll take impressions of your teeth. A dental lab technician will use these impressions to make your custom veneers. (If you choose composite veneers, dental impressions aren’t needed.)
It can take a few weeks for the dental lab to complete your veneers. If necessary, your dentist can place temporary veneers in the meantime. Once the technician finishes your veneers, the lab will ship them to your dentist’s office.
During a second office visit, your dentist will check the shape, color and fit of your veneers, then permanently bond them into place using dental cement. Finally, they’ll check your bite and make any necessary adjustments.
If you want to change something about your veneers, like the shape or color, let your dentist know. They’ll work with you and the dental laboratory to ensure that your results are satisfactory.
There’s no downtime following veneer placement. People who receive dental veneers can return to normal activities the same day. You can also eat or drink immediately after your appointment, as long as the anesthesia has worn off.
Brushing, flossing and visiting your dentist regularly are all you need to do to keep your veneers in good working condition. Be sure to use a soft-bristled toothbrush and non-abrasive fluoride toothpaste. Avoid whitening products, as they can scratch your veneers.
To make your veneers last, you should also avoid biting directly into hard or crunchy foods like apples, carrots and tough meats. Cut up these foods and chew them with your back teeth.
Porcelain veneers are stain resistant, but it’s still a good idea to avoid dark-colored foods and beverages, such as berries, red wine, coffee and tea. These foods and drinks can stain your veneers over time.
No. Veneers don’t actively damage your teeth. However, it’s still possible for the natural tooth structure underneath to decay. Therefore, it’s important to brush, floss and visit your dentist regularly for cleanings.
Most types of dental veneers are permanent, meaning they aren’t reversible. Some types of veneers, such as no-prep or minimal prep, are reversible.
On average, dental veneers last between 10 to 15 years with proper care and maintenance.
Here are some recommendations for keeping your veneers looking and feeling great:

Answers about veneer pricing, financing, comfort and planning your new smile at Dr. G Dental Studio.
Porcelain veneers are $650 per tooth, and resin (composite) veneers are $500 per tooth. Package pricing is simply $650 times the number of teeth, so 6 porcelain veneers are $3,900, 8 are $5,200 and 10 are $6,500. Your final plan and price are confirmed at your consultation after your dentist examines your teeth and gums.
Yes. Gum contouring is included free of charge when you get 8 or more veneers, which is an $800 savings when 8 teeth are treated. Gum contouring evens out an uneven or gummy gumline so your new veneers look balanced and natural. Your dentist will tell you at your consultation whether contouring would improve your result.
Porcelain is usually the better choice for a long-lasting, stain-resistant result, while resin is a lower-cost option for milder concerns. Porcelain veneers ($650 each) are custom-made by a dental lab and typically last 10 to 15 years or more with good care. Resin veneers ($500 each) use the same tooth-colored composite as dental bonding and don't need lab impressions. Your dentist will help you weigh the options.
Usually insurance does not cover veneers, because they are a cosmetic treatment. Partial benefits are sometimes available if a tooth is broken or already has fillings, bonding or a crown. To spread out the cost, ask about 0% interest financing for 24 months, or apply through CareCredit, Cherry, Alphaeon Credit or Sunbit. Financing is subject to each lender's credit approval and terms.
Most patients feel little to no pain, because the teeth are numbed with local anesthesia before the enamel is prepared. Afterward, some temporary sensitivity to hot and cold is common while your teeth adjust, and it usually fades on its own. Resin veneers often need little or no enamel removal. If your bite feels off or a tooth stays sore, call us so your dentist can check it.
It depends on how many teeth show when you smile and what you want to change. One or two veneers can fix a single chipped or discolored tooth, while a full smile makeover often covers the upper teeth that are visible when you smile, commonly 6 to 10. Your dentist will look at your smile line and goals and suggest a number before you commit.
Often, yes, especially if you're getting veneers on only some of your teeth. Veneers don't change color with whitening, so your dentist matches their shade to your natural teeth. Whitening first lets you set the brighter shade you want, and the veneers are then made to match it. Zoom in-office whitening at our office is $350 and takes about an hour.
